Earlier, we covered everything about the industry-leading charging technology on the OnePlus 10R. Now, I want to tell you about the silicon that powers it. For the first time ever, we are introducing a MediaTek SoC to the OnePlus flagship range of products.
Building on the synergy between OnePlus and MediaTek, we are excited to share that the upcoming OnePlus 10R will leverage the newly launched Dimensity 8100-MAX chipset. Backed by the potential to run graphic-intensive games flawlessly, without compromising battery consumption and thermal performance, the D8100-MAX SoC is a perfect addition to the R series DNA.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX chipset is a customized version of the regular MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset, built in close collaboration with OnePlus. The upgraded silicon brings you three major benefits that take performance even further on the OnePlus 10R:
- Better AI performance – the chipset features a dedicated AI processor – the MediaTek APU 580 – that offers 275% faster AI operational speed performance compared to the previous generation.
- More stable gaming performance – leveraging the same technology as the MediaTek 9000 chipset, the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX offers gaming performance that is more stable and with higher frame rates. This is the perfect complement to the HyperBoost Gaming Engine,back in February.
- Improved Nightscape video – the OnePlus 10R will receive an OTA after launch that will take night videography even further, helping you capture better quality Nightscape video with less noise, resulting in clearer footage.
Getting into the nitty-gritty, there are a whole lot of specs to talk about. The MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX is manufactured using a 5-nanometer process technology – ensuring the silicon runs cool and efficient. The flagship SoC features an octa-core CPU with speeds up to 2.85 GHz, with a cluster of four high-performance ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked up to 2.85 GHz, coupled with another four highly efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores that can reach 2 GHz. The CPU is paired with an ARM Mali-G610 GPU MC6.
Talking performance numbers, the CPU multi-core performance offered by the Dimensity 8100-MAX is up to 11% better when compared to the previous generation MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset. Additionally, the processor upgrades gaming with up to 20% improved GPU performance over the MediaTek Dimensity 8000, and over 25% better power efficiency over previous MediaTek Dimensity chips. Users can now you can play longer, save more battery, and still preserve the device’s battery performance over its lifecycle.
The 8100-MAX of course does its job at keeping the device cool in the most demanding tasks, but we didn’t stop there. Through our 3D Passive Cooling System, the OnePlus 10R comes with our largest and most advanced cooling system on a OnePlus device yet, even when compared to the already massive OnePlus 10 Pro cooling system.
The OnePlus 10R’s cooling system is comprised of a large, customized vapor chamber, copper foil, copper carbon (on both sides of the device’s motherboard), and a new cooling film made out of a new generation of high-performance graphite and graphene technology. The cooling system offers the largest cooling area on any OnePlus smartphone to date – measuring 35,198.02mm2, which is larger than the size of an A5 sheet of paper.
