It’s been a while since I last brought you a product Deep Dive on an upcoming product launch in Kenya. As the launch of the OnePlus 12R and the OnePlus 12 in Kenya is approaching, I’d like to talk about something that is at the very core of our DNA — performance.
As you know by now, the OnePlus brand is committed to delivering a fast and smooth experience by combining high-end hardware with a robust set of software optimizations. Our goal is to ensure a seamless fast and smooth experience when you switch between applications, or when you are performing heavy-duty tasks like mobile gaming.
This time, the goal is to step further – to offer a fast and smooth experience that lasts for a long time. Through consumer insights, we have discovered that Kenyan users are increasingly raising complaints about the fact that their device performs well in the first few minutes during heavy tasks, but over time, its performance decreases significantly due to insufficient heat control.
To address this widespread challenge within the industry, OnePlus has formed a close partnership with Qualcomm to fully explore the capabilities of their latest and most powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform for the OnePlus 12. Through extensive collaboration, we have optimized our self-developed CPU-Vitalization algorithm, which allows us to achieve the ideal balance between smartphone performance, power efficiency, and heat dissipation. In addition, both the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R boast impressive specifications, including up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 ROM.
These devices incorporate RAM-Vitalization and ROM-Vitalization technologies, ensuring exceptional performance. Furthermore, we have equipped both models with large batteries, with the OnePlus 12 featuring a 5400mAh battery and the OnePlus 12R boasting a 5500mAh battery. This ensures prolonged daily usage without compromising on power.
But that’s not enough, as we are the kind of people with a “Never Settle” spirit. Meet the industry-leading Dual Cryo-velocity Vapor Chamber (VC) cooling system with a dual VC design and a new structure that was born to keep the heat out of your hands.
On the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R, the total VC surface area is about 9,140mm², far surpassing other “Promax” or “Ultra” flagships. If you often pay attention to smartphone heat dissipation discussions, you should know that Vapor Chambers are still the most efficient heat dissipation material.
The 3,686mm² small VC is strategically placed near heat-generating components like the SoC and can absorb heat more uniformly. The heat from the smaller VC is then absorbed by the larger VC, which accelerates the condensation of the hot vapor back into liquid. As a result, the new Dual Cryo-velocity VC structure significantly improves heat dissipation efficiency.
Apart from the upgrades in heat dissipation material, we also made innovations in the VC structure. Inspired by sophisticated aeronautical engines, our vapor chamber follows an advanced Laval nozzle design that reduces resistance against the gas so hot vapors can flow more easily and enhance the heat transfer. Such a unique structure is made possible with an equally unique unibody die-casting manufacturing process.
Furthermore, to ensure that the phone maintains an appropriate temperature when held in your hand, we have incorporated a Fire Wall design. This design effectively separates the mid-frame from the heat source, primarily the SoC (System on a Chip) and its surrounding area, thereby preventing excessive heat from being directly emitted by the heat source.
The result is prominent. We’ve done an extreme test to showcase its magic. We put the OnePlus 12 and another flagship in an oven to heat them for 3 minutes, and we can see a significant difference in their VCs, respectively.
